Calls for Papers
Submission (end on November 15, 2023): The research has to be empirical in nature and be based on econometric analysis. This explicitly excludes what one could broadly define as OR applications. The unit of analysis and the theoretical problem can vary widely yet should be of interest to the Operations Management community. 6 papers will be selected for the conference based on quality, innovativeness, and fit into specific modules. Please submit full papers with coauthor information and indicate who will present the paper.

Empirical OM Research: Why and What?
Abstract: In this presentation, I will explore the reasons why researchers in Operations Management (OM) should diversify their research methods, with a particular emphasis on the empirical approach. As the field of OM continues to evolve and mature, employing a variety of research methods can enable us to triangulate and uncover the truth. To illustrate the power and value of the empirical method in OM, I present a specific research project to demonstrate how empirical methods can enhance and reinforce the value of analytical OM research techniques.

A Decade of Empirical Operations Management: A Personal Reflection
Abstract: In this presentation, I will reflect upon my journey in empirical operations management – what motivates me and where I see it thrives. I will discuss what I learnt from my mentors and fellow researchers in this field, as well as working closely with industry partners for over 10 years. I will emphasize the impact of our collective research efforts on the practice and theory of operations management, and highlight some topical, methodological, and data frontiers in our field. Finally, for junior scholars who are relatively new to empirical research, I will share some experiences in defining research questions, connecting and working with industries as well as navigating through publication process.
